Kitchen trends to watch in 2017

Posted January 13, 2017

The New Year is upon us, what kitchen trends will we see this year? Here are some of our predictions for a few of the trends we are are expecting to see in 2017.

Integration of storage and work stations

The first trend we see on the rise is the integration of appliances and workstations into the design of a kitchen. This trend has come about to ensure a fridge or microwave aren’t the main feature of a kitchen. It also helps to avoid the look of a cluttered or busy kitchen.

This trend lends itself to the need for good storage solutions. A pantry that is tucked behind joinery is one idea to ensure good storage solutions.

Concrete/concrete look products

Whilst concrete has previously been used for bench tops because of its scratch and heat resistance, it is also starting to be an accustomed feature in a kitchen. You can now see concrete used as panelling and cabinet look doors, utilised for its futuristic and minimalistic look.

If you don’t have the budget for real concrete bench tops, there are plenty of alternatives out on the market. Many brands who are able to replicate the look and feel of concrete are proving to be just as durable as natural concrete. Concrete and concrete look products add texture and personality to any kitchen.

Getting smarter in smaller places

When it comes to a well-designed and functional kitchen, size isn’t always everything. It pays to be smart about the placement of appliances, lighting, storage efficiency and capacity. Ultimately you want a kitchen that has maximum space (no matter the size) and is functional.

Open shelving is on the rise; objects and homewares can still be included in your kitchen and reflect your own personal style. One of the highlights of open shelves is the functionality and maximisation of space when preparing meals. Although open shelves does come with its own drawbacks (your objected and homewares are on display!), it is definitely a trend that is not slowing down.

A kitchen is more than just a cooking space, it’s a hub of home activity and a place to socialise and entertain. Whilst we do enjoy seeing the emerging trends, we also encourage our customers to choose design styles tailored to their personal preferences and needs. A2 Kitchen and Joinery are more than happy to help guide you through this process (see our recent blog about the Kitchen Design process to find out how we go about this).
